There are many castles in the surroundings, et many of them deserve one full day to be visited. Our advice is to avoid trying to visit too many, and take your time. We will welcome you with pleasure another time...

Castle of Chambord

This is probably the first thing to see in the area.

A full day is probably not enough to visit all. In addition to the large castle, marvel of architecture, there are also gardens, a huge forest park, and many attractions for youngs and olders: equestrian shows and falconry, boat trips, wild life viewing, sound and light.

Book your ticket in advance and start early to have enough time and because there are often a lot of people. It may be wise to bring your picnic, as there are few decent and affordable restaurants on site.

Chaumont Estate

If you love gardens or art, this is the place not to be missed.

From May to October, for 25 years, the International Garden Festival where great landscapers from all around the world compete in making about twenty small gardens that are creations always very original and often funny.

Even outside this period and this competition, the 32ha park is beautiful, with flowers, plants and beautiful trees, enlivened by many works of land art. There are also, in the old buildings of the estate, several beautiful permanent or temporary art exhibitions and other curiosities, including for children.

The castle itself is not the most interesting.

Every year we spend there a whole day, which is never long enough.

You can have nice lunch in the homestead at various prices. If you like a good and not so expensive lunch, book at “Le Velum”.

16 km from Les Brochards. Turn left exiting the private road, then turn in the second road on the left (Rue des Moriers), and turn right at it’s end to join Tours road.

Castle of Blois and old town

The castle juxtaposes several ages.

By visiting it you will relive the history of France, from Louis XII when Blois was the capital of France, to Gaston d’Orléans, brother of King Louis XIII, who longed to become the King, through the religion wars.

Half a day is enough, after which you can walk in the old-Blois to the cathedral, and walking on the left side of the cathedral to the Jardins de l’évêché (gardens of the bishop, now town hall) where there is a magnificent view on the old city.

Saint Nicolas de Blois church

Also called Saint Laumer, it is a beautiful church mainly Roman (XII th century).

The roofs upon the two towers date from the end of the 19th century, but the interior is a beautiful homogeneous set in the "stone of Blois".

Castle of Amboise and Clos Lucé

In 2019 we have celebrated the 500 years of the death of Leonardo da Vinci who lived his last years at Clos Lucé while King Francis the 1st resided at the nearby castle. Plan the day to visit both places. Everything can be done by feet.

You will discover from the castle a magnificent view on the Loire valley. There were tragic events during the wars of religion.

The Clos Lucé will enchant you with the wealth and number of Leonardo da Vinci’s inventions that you can experience yourself and that will delight young and old. Snacking in place is possible.
